Chords to Code: Mladen’s Life as a Music Producer and Webflow Dev
The soft glow of the computer screen casts a warm hue on a young man’s face as he sits over a cluttered desk.
The first notes reverberate through the monitors. His fingers start to dance across the MIDI keyboard and glide over the mouse, finding his tune, all while manipulating the virtual knobs and sliders of the music production software.
The sounds blast through the monitors so loud that he loses himself in the creative process. His body sways subtly to the rhythm, displaying the joy of sculpting sound.
Mladen is a Webflow expert at Flow Ninja and a music producer.
Born to a family of healthcare workers, he looked up to his parents and wanted to become a doctor — an endocrinologist, to be precise.
“I wanted to study in Germany, where my folks currently live. I hoped I could do it in English, but German was mandatory in the college I wanted to enroll in,” explains Mladen.
But he had other hidden talents, which he decided to share with the world. Mladen was given the gift of musicality.
Whenever he would meet people, faces became living harmonies in the symphony of his surroundings. He instinctively composed theme songs for each encounter.
It all changed when he stumbled upon music production software. Here, in the digital realm, his piano skills, which he had nourished since a young age, entwined with the limitless potential of technology.
“I made my first beat back in 2011, and music production became my primary occupation for the years to come.”
Mladen started producing music for a living at a young age, which is the period when he first encountered Webflow.
“When Mikic (Uros, Flow Ninja CEO) mentioned Webflow to me back in high school, I opened an account and started exploring it. However, I was occupied with music back in the day, so I didn’t mind too much about it.”
Mladen is a dog lover, and his canine friend Shady makes an important part of his life.
Mladen and Flow Ninja: An Ongoing Journey
Even though his Webflow account has been active since 2017, it wasn’t until several years later that he started to explore it actively.
“Even though I really liked making music, I figured that I needed a more stable opportunity with better pay.”
Mladen was straightforward: he asked Uroš for possible job opportunities if he mastered Webflow.
“I decided to devote all of my time to this. It was a great opportunity, and I literally spent 16 hours a day learning everything there is. I even tried to recreate the entire Mercedes’ website in Webflow, but that didn’t turn out as I expected.”
Mladen’s journey at Flow Ninja was off to a rocky start, as his first project turned out to be super-difficult.
“I had to go back to learning more. I wasn’t ready to tackle complicated projects right away.”
The second time, Mladen applied for a Webflow internship in Flow Ninja. Now, however, he was prepared, which resulted in him becoming a full-time part of the team. Since then, he has been rocking the Webflow world, all while composing and producing music.
How’s It Going at Flow Ninja, Mladen?
Mladen claims it’s the people at Flow Ninja who motivate him.
“I really don’t like the overused ‘we’re like a family’ phrase, and I like how we never use that. But then again, I can rely on all of my colleagues for help, even outside of work, and that’s something I highly value.”
He also added:
“If I am to be totally honest — I am also motivated by the income. So far, I have been able to afford to live a decent life with my Webflow skills, and that has given me a sense of security.”
Mladen’s favorite memories are team buildings, with the one in 2022 being his favorite.
“We visited a ranch near Novi Sad, and we had so much fun.”
A Round of Rapid-Fire Questions for Mladen
What’s your ideal remote location?
I really love working from home. Sometimes, I like working remotely from Tübingen, Germany, where my family currently lives.
Can you recommend a book or a movie?
My two favorites are Interstellar and Wolf of Wall Street. I don’t watch too many shows. Game of Thrones is definitely my favorite, but the quality started dropping with the fifth season (going forward).
Can you recommend a book?
Any book written by Jordan Peterson is a great choice.
Can you recommend an activity everyone should try?
Everyone should try to play an instrument. Many people don’t even know that they have musical talents, and instruments can help with discovering them.
Can you recommend a video game?
God of War: Ragnarok. Even though I think the story behind the predecessor (God of War (2018)) is unparalleled, the sequel has significant gameplay improvements, and I would recommend trying both games.
